They tied the knot in sign language and lived happily...

They tied the knot in sign language and lived happily...
Athirampuzha: The St Mary's Forane church here witnessed a unique wedding ceremony on Thursday. Bineesh and Hima took the vows in front of the vicar and a huge gathering but nobody at the venue heard them utter a word or the prompt from the priest. Instead, they all witnessed a beautiful ceremony where only silence spoke, moving some to tears of joy.

Bineesh and Hima were born hearing- and speech-impaired. The family members of both the bride and groom, as well as Fr Biju Moolakara, who conducted the service, were adamant that on their special day, the ceremony should be something that both Bineesh and Hima would understand in spite of being unable to speak or hear. So, they decided to conduct the wedding ceremony in sign language.

Bineesh is the son of Konikkal Thomas and Chinnamma from Athirampuzha. Hima is the daughter of Alappuzha natives James and Marykutty. 'This is a special day in the lives of Bineesh and Hima. A day they should remember forever. This is what prompted me to do the ceremony in sign language that they both understand,' said Fr. Biju, who has been working with deaf and dumb people for several years. He has conducted many weddings and other ceremonies in this manner already.
